Much like the open world aspects of the usual LEGO games, gold bricks are the main collectibles of the game to level your character – and your rocket – up, and are obtainable by completing quests from characters you meet. With the terrain being composed entirely of individual LEGO bricks, this can leave some rather jagged faces, so another aspect to the tool can gently and pleasingly smooth those out. Further on you’ll encounter the Paint tool which can coat surfaces with different landscaping effects like lava, ice, or piano notes, the Copy tool which allows easy duplication of objects, and the powerful Landscaping tool which can shape the environment, carving chunks from the earth or flattening as appropriate. A meteorite crashes near the character containing the first tool you’ll get your hands on – The Discovery tool allows the player to scan and collect new models, outfits, creatures and vehicles which can then be summoned into your world at will. Unsurprisingly, of the 10,229 colored pieces (there are additional pieces for the base and the frame), 3,052 (29.8%) are white pieces for the continents while the two blue colors account for another 34.1% of the total. With three starter worlds acting as a tutorial for the player to progressively learn the various tools of the game, LEGO Worlds then becomes more of a sandbox environment with an overarching goal of becoming a Master Builder.Įach tool you obtain will trigger a short narrated video explaining and demonstrating its use. Naturally, having put all the numbers in the file, I had to do a little data-drive investigation of the pieces. It’s quite a bit easier than removing the actual Lego pieces from the map though, depending your finger dexterity, perhaps not as fun. I also created a version with a black background, so you can create a draft of your Lego creation by just typing the number of the piece that corresponds to the color you want to use. Each number is then assigned a color using Excel’s Conditional Formatting menu (it’s kind of like a heatmap, which you can learn more about in this video). And voila, I present to you the Excel version of the Lego World Map! I built a grid in a big Excel spreadsheet with each number then placed in the appropriate spot according to the instructions. More work to do there.īecause the map is laid out in a grid, it’s primed to be built in Excel. We also put a whale over by Japan, but it kind of looks like a submarine. We built the great garbage patch in the lower-left corner, the Bermuda Triangle in pink, the Grace Hopper cable from NYC to the UK, and the compass rose on the far left.
